How do I Organize My Gmail Labels?

How do I organize my Gmail labels

In Gmail, labels are similar to folders i.e., they are another Google version of nothing but folders, and they do everything that folders do. However, the only difference between Gmail labels and Gmail folder is that in an email system that has folder structure, each email can reside in one folder only but ‘to a message/ to an email’ one can apply more than one Gmail label.

So, if anyone wants to create labels in Gmail, they can do so easily by performing these steps:

  • Simply go to Gmail and there on the left sidebar, click on ‘More’ shortcut by scrolling down.
  • Then from the extended ‘More’ option click on ‘Create New Label’
  • That’s it, then ‘Name’ your label and finally click on ‘Create.’

Not only you can create, if needed, you can also organize your Gmail labels in various ways such as:

Hide or Show Labels:

  • Firstly, click on the ‘Settings’ icon in order to open settings.
  • Then from the menu click on the ‘Labels’ tab.

After that from the sidebar simply select ‘Hide’ or ‘Show’ (according to your requirement) to every label

Move Labels:

In case you want to move your label, you can easily do so by placing the labels you want to move in the ‘More’ section of the label tab. To see ‘More Section’ and to move labels there, you need to click on the ‘More’ option which you’ll see below your label tab. That’s it!

Lastly, if you need, you can also use a Gmail filter feature in order to filter email into labels in Gmail, the same as folders.
